Silk robes

A silk robe can turn an ordinary morning into a ritual. Cool in July, enveloping in January, woven to catch the light like still water — a well-made silk robe keeps you company through the first coffee, the evening skincare and every hour in between, when the house belongs to you alone. At YES VERSE we are sewing our silk robe collection right now — in the same Bielsko-Biała atelier, from the same mulberry silk our lingerie is made of. Before the first pieces reach the rails, we have gathered everything worth knowing before you choose yours.

Start with the fabric, because it decides everything. Mulberry silk earns its reputation honestly: the fibre of a silkworm raised on mulberry leaves is long, even and almost free of slubs — hence a smoothness that cannot be imitated. The weight of silk is measured in momme: the higher the number, the denser and more durable the cloth. For a women's robe, look for 19–22 momme — heavy enough to drape beautifully and stay opaque, light enough to feel like a touch. Charmeuse, the satin weave with a lustrous face and a matte reverse, is the classic of the genre: it is responsible for that liquid, almost wet sheen you can recognise from across the room.

Fit is simpler than instinct suggests. A kimono cut with a tie belt is forgiving and lets you wear a silk robe loose or cinched at the waist. Pay attention to sleeve length, the depth of the wrap and whether the belt has loops — a small detail that decides whether the two are still a pair a year from now. Mid-calf length looks the most timeless; shorter kimono versions earn their keep in summer, in a suitcase, and as a gift that is hard to get wrong.

Care sounds more daunting than it is. Hand-wash your silk robe in cool water with a gentle silk detergent, dry it flat in the shade and press it through a thin cloth on the lowest setting — a few minutes of attention this fabric repays for years. In return you get a fibre that regulates temperature naturally and is kind to skin and hair — we write more about it on our journal. And if you would rather not wait for the launch, you can meet YES VERSE mulberry silk today in our silk lingerie collection.

Questions & Answers

How do I recognise a good silk robe, and what does momme mean?

Look for three things: 100% mulberry silk (not polyester satin or blends), a charmeuse weave, and a weight given in momme. Momme is the unit of silk weight — for robes the sweet spot is 19–22: the fabric is dense, opaque and drapes beautifully. Lighter weights can be cheaper, but they wear through sooner.

How should I wash and care for a silk robe?

Hand-washing is safest: cool water and a gentle detergent made for silk. Do not wring it, tumble-dry it or leave it in the sun — lay it flat in the shade. Iron on the lowest setting, through a thin cloth, while the fabric is still slightly damp. We describe the full care ritual step by step on our journal.

What about delivery and returns?

We currently ship within Poland — InPost or courier, usually 2–4 working days, with free delivery on orders over 300 PLN. You have 14 days from receiving your parcel to return an unused product in its original packaging. Every order arrives in an elegant box with tissue paper and a satin ribbon — gift-ready by default.
